✅ The four intertwining storylines are chef’s kiss — perfect for fans of ensemble casts. Even better, the characters sometimes cross paths in-game, leading to playable co-op crossover segments. And if other players are online, the game allows real-time connections across campaigns. Super innovative.
✅ The plot is strong overall, with tons of bosses, each with distinct styles. Transformer Simmons? Wild.
✅ Each campaign has its own tone and gameplay flavor:
Leon’s feels like classic survival horror
Chris’s is all-out gunfire and action
Ada’s is stealth and spy vibes
Jake’s feels like a cinematic blockbuster
✅ Each campaign has five chapters, making the total playtime well over 20 hours.
✅ Melee combat is incredibly satisfying — especially with Leon and Helena. If you know, you know: punches, kicks, flying knees… so smooth!
✅ QTEs — I know they’re controversial, but personally, I enjoyed them. They add tension and test reflexes. I played on easy and already found them tough — can't imagine higher difficulties.✅
Strategic variety in level design:
Chris’s electric switch scene where one player lures enemies while the other activates controls
Jake’s “bait-and-switch” boss stealth, hiding in lockers, memorizing codes to unlock doors
Snowmobile chase and city parkour sections — I died so many times in Jake’s campaign but it was a blast
✅ Emphasis on co-op gameplay. This was the first and last time the series leaned so hard into two-player design, and honestly? It worked. Jake’s campaign especially felt like a romantic buddy-action game — like It Takes Two but with zombies.
✅ The linear level design is masterful — maps feel huge and open, but are actually streamlined in a way that subtly guides you forward. Even when it feels like you’re lost, you’re usually on the right path.
✅ For an older game, visuals and mechanics still hold up great today.
✅ Personal bonus: loved seeing all the legacy characters come together. If only Piers had survived... Add Rebecca, Jill, and Claire into the mix, and it would’ve been a dream reunion.
❌ Camera shake — the only 3D game that’s ever made me genuinely motion sick
❌ No aim assist with controllers — targeting is exhausting
❌ Some item-related puzzles lack clear instructions; e.g., Jake Chapter 4’s pillar-moving sequence took us forever to figure out
❌ Some character weapons/combos feel clunky — calling out Sherry’s stun gun in particular, with painfully long startup and cooldown animations
